F. A. Q. about Accelerated Reader Program

Parents and students have many questions about the Accelerated Reader or AR program.  Here are the most frequently asked questions:

1.   How do we know how many points the book is worth?  Is it on the book?

No.  We do not put point value on the books at Hedrick School Library.  The surest way to know how many points the book is worth is too look on the list on the classroom AR computer or on the company's website.  The red dot on the spine has a reading level on it.  This is not the point value.

2.   Can students only take quizzes on books from school?

No.  You can take quizzes on books you have at home or books found in the public library.  The longer or more advanced books, such as "Treasure Island", "Alice in Wonderland", et al, must be the unabridged, unadapted or original versions.  Quizzes are written on the complete book and the shortened versions may not contain that material. The same goes for movies.  Quizzes are written on the book and not the changes that happen for movies.

3.   Can students take quizzes at home or in the library?

Quizzes can only be taken on the computer in their own classrooms.
